As Malleable as Steel (2024)

Video Installation
Exhibited at (re)cognizable, B'sarya for Arts, Alexandria (September 2024).
Developed during the ART X AI residency.

By manipulating architectural structures through construction, demolition, zoning, and controlled access, power not only organizes the city but also shapes the behavior of its inhabitants. Urban design becomes a political technology that permits, delays, redirects, or denies movement. The city can be seen as a living body whose streets act as arteries and districts as organs, yet this body is deliberately engineered for observation and discipline. Infrastructure supports not only movement but also monitoring and governance. Architecture extends authority: checkpoints, barriers, corridors, and plazas regulate visibility and access, while surveillance technologies help manage circulation and subtly shape everyday life within the urban environment.
